Policy Agreement

Kids Can Sing (KCS) provides weekly private individual voice lessons by long time professional coach Melanie Redman all in the comfort of your own home, studio or location of your choice.  Adults and children are encouraged to participate in this innovative and original program designed to help you reach your vocal goals as quickly as possible.  The program is designed to work with students of any ability level.  Melanie’s tried and true methods are helping people reach their personal and professional goals while having fun. This fun filled educational safe environment Melanie creates is a one-of-a-kind approach and it works easily to teach anybody to sing.  Each student learns to sing correctly using proper body mechanics and techniques.  As an added bonus, when ready lessons can take place in a professional state-of-the-art digital recording studio.  The student will learn proper etiquette for studio recording such as microphone use and how to record a CD from start to finish.  For students working on stage performance Melanie can arrange for stage performance opportunities.  Even children with special needs and challenges are encouraged to participate in the Kids Can Sing Program with one on one musical exploration.  At risk, autism, physically challenged, asthma let nothing stand in the way of your passion to sing.

Commitment: To receive the full benefit of the KCS program the student, and parents, must be prepared for the long term, at least one year.  It will take that to see a balanced, poised singer and maybe even performer emerge.  While many are able to achieve this in less time, most students master the art of singing correctly within one year.  The continued study of intermediate and professional body mechanic skills can continue for a lifetime.  KCS is a year round program designed around each student’s changing needs and schedule.  Please do not hesitate to plan with Melanie.  Anyone can learn to sing given sufficient time to learn the body mechanics.

Lesson times: All lessons begin and end promptly as scheduled
.   Please “be on time” as this puts in motion a life long habit of accountability for scheduled commitments.  Due to the nature of traffic it is understood that sometimes Melanie will be running late and you can count on a phone call if this is the case.  A student no show of 10 or more minutes will be considered a student cancellation, with no make up, unless a call is received prior to the lesson start time.  There will be no call from our office to remind students of the lesson.  It is the student/parent responsibility to communicate per the policy agreement.

Illnesses: Melanie is very conscious of the importance of maintaining health and well being.  Please let KCS know if you or someone in your home is having a fever or ill.  All students need to rest if sick.  Rescheduling is not a problem when there is illness present in your home.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Vacations and Holidays:
The following days are recognized as Kids Can Sing Holidays.
New Years Day, January 1; Memorial Day, the last Monday in May; July 1 through July 7; Labor Day, the first Monday in September; Thanksgiving Day and the day after, the fourth Thursday and Friday in November; December 24 through December 31.

Make-up lessons: There are no make-up lessons unless agreed to in advance.

Background Music Tracks: Students are responsible for the cost of acquiring all their own background music (karaoke) they desire to sing.  Kids Can Sing does have an extensive library of over 12,000 songs and is happy to share at no cost to the student.  If students want to sing something that is not in the library, they will need to purchase these materials.  Download service during lesson time is available at the cost of the song, $1.00 to $5.00, depending on the vendor supplying the track(s).   Students must also bring blank CD media to their lessons for study and recording.

Notice of Termination:
Students must provide one-month written notice to terminate.  Notice must be given on the 1st of the month for the following month’s termination.  If less notice is given, you will pay the monthly lesson fee, whether present or not.

Practice: To benefit from this program, the student must play with what they learn in their lesson, preferably daily at least one half hour.  Students who practice an hour a day excel and become more proficient in less time.

Payment: Monthly rate of $200.00 is due by the 20th each month post dated for the following month of private lessons.   Checks are cashed on the first day of the month.  Each month of lessons begin on the first day of the month.  If you begin lessons later in the month the cost is not prorated.  Payments are for scheduled time every month whether the student is available for the lesson or not.  Annual charge of $50.00 is for printed material, handouts, digital media and recording disk space.
